    This treatise represents the first research in the Russian legal literature devoted to certain aspects of the Russian regulation of foreign-related matters with regard to the legal status and activities of foreign attorneys in Russia. The author carries out a profound study of the ways to obtain the status of Russian attorneys available for foreign attorneys, as well as the possibilities open for them to provide legal services in Russia that would go beyond the scope of respective foreign law. The author gives a critical analysis of the resolution of the Federal Chamber of Attorneys Council on the named issues. He further makes a brief historical overview of the attempts in the USSR and in Russia to restrict the rights of foreign attorneys and lawyers.

    In the first place the book is intended for those engaged in international civil and trade relations, as well as for both Russian and foreign attorneys. At the same time it could be of interest to legal scholars, judges, academics, postgraduates and students. The treatise can be employed in the law enforcement practice, used for the purposes of developing the statutory regulation. It could moreover serve as an educational guidance for special courses at higher educational institutions.

In this work the named issues are studied de lege lata, de lege ferenda, as well as in a historical perspective. Particular attention is devoted to the problems that Russian partnerships of attorneys have been constantly facing due to lack of understanding on the part of the banks of the peculiarities of domestic currency regulation (resulting from the nature of the status and activities of attorneys) in its application to such partnerships.

    Yablochkov T.M. The work was prepared by the Department of Private International and Civil Law of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, in cooperation with the Moscow State University, Research Centre of Private Law and ‘Statut’ publishing house.
